The Leeds Jazz Band

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions by clients who book The Leeds Jazz Band. For further information, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

When you book the band you get a comprehensive booking contract for your piece of mind. The contract outlines everything that we have agreed and legally binds us to perform at your event. The contract is accompanied by easy to understand, industry standard terms and conditions.

We will also be on hand to help with any questions or queries up to and after your event.

YES! The booking procedure is extremely straightforward and transparent; after we have fully agreed your requirements the booking contracts are issued to you. Generally the contracts are due to be signed and returned to the office within 7 days, along with the deposit payment which is 20% of the total amount. The balance is usually due to be paid within 14 days prior to the date of the event. For many of our corporate clients this payment schedule is not always possible and so we will always be flexible. Then all that is left is for you to enjoy the big day. We are available by email or phone 7 days a week if there are any questions or queries.
You can pay us by cheque or bank transfer. We provide full invoices for all the work we do.
We are always happy to offer no obligation help and advice at any time. Please get in touch by email or telephone and we will be happy to discuss your event with you and give advise regarding the most appropriate solution for you.

We have years of experience working corporate and private events and with one ten minute phone call will be able to get to the bottom of what will work best for you regarding band line up, session time, performance times, PA requirements etc.

Because each event is unique we will work with you to provide a package which is perfect for you and your guests. As a rule of thumb a normal playing length would usually be something like 2×45 minute sets with a short break in the middle, however 3 or 4 sets are not uncommon.
Absolutely, yes. We bring everything we need, including a digital piano and amplification. During our initial conversation we will get to the bottom of what level of amplification would best suit your event. For example a jazz duo working in the afternoon to 50 people enjoying a drinks reception, will require something very different to a quintet, performing for dancing to 300 people in a marquee. We do need access to power in the location in which you would like us to set up.
No. The drum kit is actually very easy to control. Playing with brushes for example is one way to produce a very tasteful sound. We will always play at an appropriate volume: neither too loud nor too soft.
Not at all. We regularly work in venues which have sound limiters and as this is not a rock or pop band, keeping below the limit is quite straight forward.
In most circumstances this is not possible as we specialize in performing at private functions. By the nature of the fact that they are private, we cannot obtain access for guests or potential clients unfortunately.
Yes. If you or your venue would like to see a copy of our PAT certificate, please let us know.
Yes. We hold Public Liability cover up to £10,000,000. This covers legal liability that may arise following injury or damage to members of the public. If you or your venue would like to see our certificate please let us know.
We are happy to learn and perform your first dance free of charge providing you give us adequate notice and the song is in keeping with the repertoire and style of the band. “Thrash Metal” for example would not be in keeping with our repertoire!
If we have good access to your venue we should be able to load in, set up and sound check within 60 minutes maximum. In many cases it will take less time.
We wear smart suits with ties or dinner jackets with bow tie. If you need something else just tell us and we will try to accommodate.
One very important clause in the Terms and Conditions relates to additional extras that the band is going to need at the venue. Soft drinks and a meal are a standard part of all professional band contracts.

The following must be provided by the client at no expense to the artist.

1) Free supply of mineral water & soft drinks for the duration of the bands stay at the performance venue.
2) Hot meal or buffet for all artists & crew/personnel.
3) Secure clean changing room.

As with everything else we are flexible and so if you think that there will be a problem with any of this please just chat to us about it.
